Canopus

Thursday , 5 March 2015 We had been thinking about doing the multicache on the Canopus hill for sometime and as the weather was not looking the best for a Mount Wellington walk this seemed to be a good time to do it.  The first thing that struck us was the huge noise of the highway traffic and was not until after leaving waypoint 4 before it abated.  At the next stop the land owner was very curious to know what we up to and so ensued a lengthy explanation of geocaching and GPS units; by which stage he had changed from being concerned to helpful and pointed to where we ought go for views from the top.  We met him again whilst as he said was his regular walk round the top.   The Curse of the FTF (Tasmania) #3 A quick look at this puzzle had us in the dark, so we were pleased to get it the easy way.   A Stroll or a Trek The optional  walk was well worth it and had the advantage of a walk through the pleasant bush on the summit.   And the b...

Only 50 percent at Taroona

Thursday , 26 February 2015 We were going to collect our granddaughter and worked out that whilst in the area we could do a couple of caches at Taroona  that we didn’t have. The plan was for a circuit walk and although it was OK weather on leaving home, it turned a bit blustery and showery part way.  We dashed back to the car and rather than leave empty handed, after a fruitless search for cache one,  drove to spot two and as a result scored a 50% success rate for the day. Crayfish Point Well we looked and looked, read some logs and reread the hint but left without success. Turning Circle We went past here in December 2013 only to find a street party going on so continued walking.  This time it was a lot quieter and  a quick find.

Battery Circuit

Tuesday , 27 January 2015 Parked in Marieville Esplanade and walked along some of the streets of this part of Sandy Bay and battery point to Salamanca Place and back via Princes Park.  The weather forecast was fine for the morning with showers likely in the afternoon and it was spot on, with precipitation starting about 100 metres before we got to the car. By the Derwent Parked nearby and walked to Battery Point checking this on the way, but a muggle sitting near.  Still mothers and kids close on return, but had a quick look while doing up shoelaces. Geo-Anonymous This was most amusing.  Plenty of people were sitting about as we had a quick scan. Without noticing anything likely.   After sitting down ourselves and waiting for  the GPS to get more satellites, it pointed to a spot that was free of people.  Peter mentioned the name of the cache and wondered what significance it might have.  In the meantime Sue said the name and pointed to which ...

Waverley Circuit

Friday , 23 January 2015 It was only a couple on months ago that we walked the lower part of this circuit and since then this series of caches has gone in.  We started at Lanena Street entrance got a couple out that way then followed the numbers in order from there on. 10 Out In The Open, Waverley Walk the cache lived up to its name 11 Within The Trees, Waverley Walk We don’t know if it was because we had sunglasses on, but both looked at the site, where it was eventually found by Sue, twice each.  As a consequence it took us a while to find. 0 Entrance, Waverley Walk It was quick to locate which was just as well with the resident over the fence close. 1 Dead Tree, Waverley Walk Nifty hide and liked the ladybird 2 Old Log, Waverley Walk Another nice ladybird. 3 You CAN Find this, Waverley Walk Sue guessed what to look for here. 4 Fallen Stump, Waverley Walk Another nice ladybird and we liked the outside container. 5 Water Tank, Waverley Walk Spent too much tim...

Up the Montrose Again

Saturday , 27 December 2014 Eight caches had been added since our last walk up the hill, which is now getting to be close to 4k to the end one. For variety, and to get an additional cache at the northern end of Goat Hills, we walked own the Zig Zag fire trail and that needed care to avoid involuntary sliding. Montrose List 12 - Holden on Fortunately it didn’t take long to work out the answer as an internet search just happened to bring up the right list, although there was 1 dicky one in there. Montrose List 11 - Hard Rock (but no Cafe) Number 12 was visited first and while there Peter's pack tipped over before we headed off to this cache.  Once the log was extracted we discovered that some items were missing and Peter had to walk back to 12 where he also found his drink bottle as well.  An unplanned 300 metre extra walk.   But we did have a cup of tea, although it was a BYO variety. Montrose List 13 - I Love Puzzles I worked out what the puzzle items were but th...

Another channel Trip

Image
Thursday , 4 September 2014 As we ran out of time on a recent trip to the Channel district we returned to seek out those caches missed. The weather was even better than last time because there was no early fog.  Plans had to be slightly rearranged to fit in lunch at the Lotus Eaters cafĂ© in Cygnet. Coffee was spot on and the food good.  After this visit we still have more in the area to look for and another return is needed. Ana's View It was where expected.  It was a lovely bay we only had ever seen was briefly whilst driving past. We left a lizard TB. Tranquil Bay Very neat hide which was not easy to see wearing sunglasses.  Left black sheep TB. Middleton 1 Sue picked the correct side.  A small wallaby was very quiet close to us and may have been unwell, as it didn’t bolt off as is normal. Two Ladies Meet Didn’t take long to find once there.  We parked well south and walked along the beach.  Enjoyed the views of Huon Island and Adamson Peak...

Coningham Loop

Tuesday , 15 July 2014 Peter decided to spend the morning helping the Friends of Coningham with weeding out Erica in the reserve while Sue went for a walk along the beaches and cliff tops, collecting a geocache on the way. After lunch we walked up to Sheppards Hill where we noticed that a lot of Erica had been sprayed and was looking very lifeless then down the eastern end and along the coastal cliff top track to the car, getting three more caches on the way. For Sue the days walking distance was 12k. Channel Views Good views still, but the young trees nearby are growing taller. The log had just a touch of dampness. Littoral 2 The tree that was down stopped Sue as she still had a caste for her broken wrist. Peter hopped over it and then hopped over a rail to make getting to the cache easier. Sunday Drive #2 Conningham Sue found and it was well hidden. The log was signed on the old picnic table. The Cave Peter had been past here several times but never gone to look at the cave from...
