Longley Margate Circuit

Wednesday 24 October 2012

A geocaching day along the old Huon Highway from Fern Tree to Longley then back down the main highway to Sandfly to grab a a few along the road to Margate before collecting our granddaughter from school at Kingston.

Winter Falls

This was the first stop for the day and the clue made it quick to find, especially as we have seen similar.

The Japs are coming Part 2

What made this easy was the cache container being clearly visible on peeping down behind the structure; we hid it away out of such easy sight.

CD Cache

A family were picnicking at a table and probably wondered what two people with GPS pen and paper were doing heading off towards the river. A great mob of chooks also raced towards us as soon as we got out of the car; assuming we guess that we had something nice to through their way.

The GPS was a bit erratic under the trees but Peter spotted a location that seemed a likely spot and so it turned out to be.

Old and Older

A most interesting bit of history with this, thanks OldSaint, and as we have seen a cache like this before it was quickly picked up.

The Great Wall of Tasmania

Realised we were on the wrong side of the road, so gave this a miss this time.

No Sandflies on Us!

Peter made a coding error with this and the GPS pointed into some quite thick scrub when we got close to the GZ. By this time there was a light shower and we walked on to the end of the track at the river edge. The shower stopped and the coordinates were recalculated and we walked back to GZ. The log book is full although we did find a small spot to use.

The native flowers, especially the Pultenaea, Epacris and Diplarrena were just magnificent along this pleasant track.

Bunyip Walk

This was a case of not looking closely enough at the details and coordinates. After getting back in the car from No Sandflies on Us! Peter realised that starting place was exactly where we were sitting and it dawned on us that it required a repeat of the walk we had just completed. It is a nice track for a walk but we decided once was enough for this day and we would return.

Drive Through- Open 7 Days

A big item was spotted wrapped in fairly new plastic bags and it was assumed this would be the cache, but doubts arose when lifting it as it felt weighty and it turned out to be a sowing machine. While Peter put it back Sue quickly had the real container. We took a rubber and left a card. The Red Jeep Travel Bug was not present.

Babble

Drove past the parking area, so had to do a couple of u-turns on the road, but eventually got to the start OK and headed down to the river. Started the search in a slightly wrong place but didn’t take long to find it once we managed to match up the scene with the hint. Left Silvagni TB.

Enjoy the View

This was an easy one and we managed to pull up in the car right beside the hiding place.

Wincy

Wincy is quite an original idea for a hiding place and the hardest to find for the day. Peter was a bit suspicious about an object and tested it but the inspection revealed nothing out of the normal. Sue remembered and sang nursery thyme and this made Peter go and recheck what he had been looking at, but this time check more thoroughly. First it was the wrong part of the item then again another wrong spot, which just left one option and there it was. Poor Peter then had trouble replacing the object until he worked out a simplified method.
