A trip to Poimena
Wednesday , 26 February 2014
We decided to take a trip out to the Poimena Reserve to attempt a few caches. A couple of years ago we both recollect walking to the top of the reserve for geocache, but there is nothing on the web and it has us somewhat puzzled; are we mistaken or has it been archived.
The caches today were varied and inventive. We walked up from the bottom car park only to find a council truck with workers inside parked at GZ. We think they may have been waiting for knock off time to lock the gate on the road. Fortunately the cache further up the hill beckoned and after finding that we returned and the truck had gone. Sue suspected where the hide might be and she was correct. It had been popular up here as we were the 5th in the log for the day.The Birth Place of Australian Disc Golf
A fairly quick find and we hope the plastic bag lasts a bit longer as there was no hard container and it had a hole in it. Peter pulled out a few Boneseed plants while Sue filled in the log. On arriving at the spot the GPS suggested, Sue had a quick look about before Peter spotted a small shiny thing on the ground. Dam the things been muggled we immediately thought as this was just the cap from a nano container. Maybe we could take a photo of it and send to the owner and see if it matched to what was placed there, and then maybe we could claim it as a find (does half a find count). A search about on the ground failed to locate the rest of it, so we then had a look at the likely spots that we reckoned it would have originally been placed. Delight there was the rest of it sitting there. So that could be ticked off and put back together as one. Before logging this we noticed a new entry from the same date which explained what had happened to the container. There that must be a bit of a relief for you GoldJ. The old cottage was most interesting and although we had read a bit about the original ferry, we didn't realise the cottage was here. This had us searching about until Sue spotted the very clever hide; a very artful one at that. Wednesday, 26 February 2014 Page 1 of 2 Peter had attempted to work out the puzzle soon after this had been published, but failed to get an answer. By good fortune it came up in discussion with Barad Bunch one day who was also having a spot of bother with it, but the next time we met Barad had solved it and gave enough of a hint to shove Peter over the line. This was about 12 months or so ago and we have finally gotten around to searching for it. Peter spotted a suspicious object and it was the container and very good one at that. Whist in the area we decided to look for this, but just couldn't spot it. And an eclipse tin is not all that small either, but no luck at all.
