Second visit to the Huon in a week
Wednesday , 30 April 2014
After running out of time two days earlier and with a pleasant weather prediction, we headed off to do the caches that had been planned for the previous trip, plus some more. But it took us so long walking and searching that we ended up still being at Ranelagh after 1 PM and bought lunch at Summer Kitchen baker. It advertises as an organic business and the food and coffee were tasty.
A light shower was falling, but Sue was able to hop out and quickly bring it back to the car for signing. Looked where the GPS and logic said, but no sign of it. Found one in this series before so went straight to the the right spot. Peter went north side and kept his shoes dry, whilst Sue encountered long wet grass on the south approach. The log was so wet it was impossible to sign. Actually on first sighting Peter was none too sure that this wasn’t just some an old discarded object rather than the cache container. Went inside at first before discovering the mistake. The park was under maintenance and we had it to ourselves, but no luck. Went to wrong match to hint, then spotted closer to the river. Looked for what was long enough. Finally one that was a cinch today. Thought heck why can't we see it and then started searching where we thought was just only discarded stuff. Found thanks to the log suggesting to look up as we had been at the location but only had looked down. Not sure about the singed bit but the object certainly is still standing , but days are numbered. Had to delve quite a bit too. Good view but couldn’t see anything matching the hint. Sue saw it and said "you can get this one". Only spotted when walking in the right direction. The TB was not present.Burning the Midnight Oil #2 Redneck
We think the calculation was correct but could not find any cache at the GZ we went to. There has been some disturbance where a new fence has been installed and it was clear of blackberries and a bit muddy near the bridge. It was 3:15 PM when we nabbed this and it helped having two people as one could block the view and we could also give the impression of discussing something, which of course we were. "do you think it might be there" etc. Sue pretended to tie her shoe laces whilst checking a likely spot; which proved to be correct. We noticed the last log was a not found and we only made a quick search. Amazing how you don’t see it then after wonder how you missed. We kept looking near the berries (Billardiera) after reading the previous log and were about to give up when Sue spotted the container. Thought we were about to finish our day on a low note, but instead managed a high one.
