Wednesday , 20 February 2019 Old timber getters , no big trees here any more On having attention drawn to the geocaches on the Mountain River track it was decided to attempt them and at the same time check on a weed site way up very close to the Sleeping Beauty cache. The weed species is broom and unfortunately there was quite a lot of seedling still there, plus a few now bigger ones overlooked last time. Saturday , 29 October 2016 Hartz Lake Look In Here The hint got us there quickly, thanks to the accurate interpretation of it by Sue.    We replaced the log. Boys Toys and Girls Day Out Found using clues as GPS was only a general area help. Cache of Cash Nice little hiding place.  A favourite because of that. Ladies Tarn How appropriate that the cache was found by such a nice lady today. Wednesday , 21 September 2016 We had reason to visit the Huon, on what started as cloudy as forecast but eventually ended up sunny and quite warm; we were overdressed for the conditions. After getting the final cache on our list at Franklin, we passed the multifaceted post office cum coffee shop where all was quiet when we stepped inside., but within a few minutes the very obliging woman running it was swamped with customers whilst she made our coffee.  But they all seemed happy to wait and chat to each other.. Tricky Landing Sue said what about that and it was. It nearly beat us as our thought was a bison tube would be hanging.  Quite clever. Franklin Caravan Looked for a while before giving up. Thursday , 4 September 2014 As we ran out of time on a recent trip to the Channel district we returned to seek out those caches missed. The weather was even better than last time because there was no early fog.  Plans had to be slightly rearranged to fit in lunch at the Lotus Eaters café in Cygnet. Coffee was spot on and the food good.  After this visit we still have more in the area to look for and another return is needed. Ana's View It was where expected.  It was a lovely bay we only had ever seen was briefly whilst driving past. We left a lizard TB. Tranquil Bay Very neat hide which was not easy to see wearing sunglasses.  Left black sheep TB. Middleton 1 Sue picked the correct side.  A small wallaby was very quiet close to us and may have been unwell, as it didn’t bolt off as is normal. Two Ladies Meet Didn’t take long to find once there.  We parked well south and walked along the beach.  Enjoyed the views of Huon Island and Adamson Peak...

Wednesday , 30 April 2014 After running out of time two days earlier and with a pleasant weather prediction, we headed off to do the caches that had been planned for the previous trip, plus some more. But it took us so long walking and searching that we ended up still being at Ranelagh after 1 PM and bought lunch at Summer Kitchen baker. It advertises as an organic business and the food and coffee were tasty. Save a cowboy Ride a ??? A light shower was falling, but Sue was able to hop out and quickly bring it back to the car for signing. One Lane Creek 4 Looked where the GPS and logic said, but no sign of it. 4 Corners-2 Found one in this series before so went straight to the the right spot. One Lane Creek 3 Peter went north side and kept his shoes dry, whilst Sue encountered long wet grass on the south approach. The log was so wet it was impossible to sign. Monday , 28 April 2014 As a nice day was in the offing we decided perhaps a bushwalk might be the go. However it was not until breakfast that the thought of Pelverata and Slippery Falls would be a good option. We seemed to recall there was a geocache there and a check on the web revealed two in fact. Being not a long walk we thought that a few more caches could be picked up during the drive back from the walk. All this investigation and downloading data to the GPS ended up taking longer than expected, with the result that it was close to midday by the time we started walking. After reaching the viewing platform at Pelverata Falls, we then commenced the ascent up the scree to the top of the falls. A lunch stop in the sun on the way up of course took a bit of time, plus the distance up the scree was longer than our memories, which meant there was not really sufficient time to venture as far as Slippery Falls. Wednesday 4 September 2013 We had decided to go for a walk along part of the Kaoota Tramways track and had assumed that this cache would be somewhere along the route.  After parking the car and starting off Peter realised that the GPS was saying that WP1 was back where the car was parked.   Once the info was collected and plugged into the GPS, it showed that the cache was not anywhere near the expected location.  Thinking that he must had inserted something wrong or made a miscalculation, Peter rechecked and in fact found he had used the B value where the A should be.  That should fix it he thought; but no it was still not where Peter imagined it would be.   A recheck and yes everything seemed to be entered correctly, so back to the compass and now it suddenly was suggesting the location was over 9,000 k away; whoops S had been inadvertently replaced by N.  Back to the compass and still thousands of kilometres away; whoops again W had got in inst...

  Thursday 18 October 2012 I had never been beyond White Timber Mountain and as the area was mooted as part of a multi-day walk thought  I would check out what the country at the western end of the Wellington area was like.   I had driven up Judds Creek Road had a look about and walked part way along and old access path towards mount Lloyd.  While in the area I thought I would attempt up a few geocaches on the way home.   Ancestral Glen I was taken by the nostalgia with this cache, so, OldSaint, I really was keen to find this one at Glen Huon.   I have mainly gone through the area on way to a bushwalk and one of the places visited is Woolleys Tarn and it nice to think there is a connection.  I always understood the tarn was named after a local who was keen fisherman. Anyway when i (Peter only on this day) arrived there were a couple of kids whose mothers I think watched over them a bit closer when they saw a somewhat dishevelled fellow...

Sunday 14 October 2012 Whilst returning from a bushwalk to White Timber Mountain, some caches located on the drive back were searched for with Barad Bunch.   Jeffreys Track We searched for some time, even had a car of muggles pass us during the search and pass again on their return. However no luck in finding it.   4 Corners-3 The neighbour and her dog greeted us and didn’t think it strange to see people with GPS units outside her home; maybe she had seen it all before. We looked at the likely spots then suddenly a thought of a possible hiding place proved correct. After replacing it we wondered why we didn’t see it straight away.   4 Corners-4 A quick find made.   The Sleeping Mountain It was expected to be on or near the information sign, but not so. As the geocache Lets Take a Dip was going to be driven past on the to the bushwalk to Trestle mountain, via Mountain River, a quick stop was made by Peter and Barad Bunch. A vehicle with a couple of people was parked at the GZ and the occupants no doubt were wondering what two men were doing walking to a spot and then busily searching for the something. The cache was easy to locate although it had accumulated a bit of dirt due to its location. The other vehicle by the way left before we finished with the cache so hopefully they won’t be curious enough to return to see what we had been looking at. Found 16/5/12
