A Lutana Loop

With New Town bay #4 back on line we decided to do a loop walk through Lutana to Prince of Wales Bay and back via Moonah. A 7 kilometre walk. Lutana is an area we hadn't walked through before and we got a surprise to find a pocket of houses all with that rough cement rendering that was used 50 years ago or more. Some were single story and others double and were probably built by the zinc works for employees.

After learning this was back online we went to complete the series. Took a while to get the removal implement working at the right spot. But once we had it there was a new log.

Not Winnie the Pooh

On approaching the site we realised why the name was chosen. Spotted a likely hiding place but had a bit of delay getting into it. Eventually a stick helped get things moving.

There were plenty of nearby muggles, including one fellow a couple of properties away watching closely. We figured that it was likely he knew about the cache. We suspected what the type of container might be, especially after seeing a photo on one of the logs. Sue was quick to locate the spot even though not really where the GPS pointed to.

Guessed this one as we approached. Our only problem was a taxi parked beside GZ., but it left when the driver got a call for a passenger, which made replacing the cache easier.

Frogs and Water

We knew that " Swimming Hole " was a cache not far from home and finally decided to seek it. Earlier in the week we had picked up " Spot the Frog ", a moveable cache found under the Geocache Australia website and needed to deposit the little fellow somewhere. As frogs like water and this one had spent a few months on a dry hillside it seemed appropriate to lodge near a creek, so finding "Swimming Hole" was combined with the task. We could work out the starting spot even without a GPS and soon had the next stage entered in the GPS. Much to Peter's surprise it led us back down rather than up the creek and we ended beside a fence. A bit of searching and head scratching saw us give up for now and head off to lodge our little froggy. On return home Sue scanned through past logs and discovered several people also ended up where we did and then found this was several metres out. Freycinet Bushwalk

3 – 5 October 2012 As we were going on a bushwalk to Freycinet Peninsula the potential geocache finds in the area were checked and several were close to our route. We went for three days, camping at Cooks Beach for both nights and heading down to a rocky peak beyond Passage Beach. Graham (Graham51) was with us although he took the longer return option over Mount Graham where he also managed to locate a cache on his journey. On the way back in the car we picked up a couple in the region. Top of the Pass Our first for the day, located by Graham, and although a few muggles were about none took much notice of us,   Half empty or half full ? We dropped our packs and with two people holding GPS’s and three heading to GZ it was surprising how little attention the muggles paid to our activity. Waterworks Stroll

1 June 2012 For a few weeks we have been meaning to head back to the Ridgeway Park and collect a cache out on the eastern side. There was also one not far from Two Views which we ran out of time to attempt when we were here in April just gone.   The Kong Foo Sing Cache Walking to the site was quite pleasant and it was somewhere we had never walked before, although we had been on the tracks in other parts of the reserve over the years, and our resolve was to follow some of the other tracks before too long and maybe score a cache or two in the process. The container took a bit of extracting as it was a tight fit and we were surprised at the number of fortune messages that were in it.
