Around the Domain

An afternoon circling the Domain, starting with what we thought was a pretty smart start with the unusual "Batteries Not Included" cache. However although we thought we had things correct, it seems that was not the case as it ended in taking lots of time and frustration. The remainder of the day was successful with a mixed bag of caches.

Batteries Not Included

We thought all was really going well after discovering the initial container and having an item to make things work. However the GZ didn't seem right and certainly didn't fit the spot that other logs mentioned. After more searching we went on to other geocaches and as our car was parked nearby, decided to go back to the start. This time we found more combinations that seemed to give a response, but still didn't get the confirmation expected. Nevertheless we went back to what was now several potential GZs, but failed to find anything at any. We must have missed a vital clue somewhere in the process.

Beaumaris Zoo

This was the second for the day and the most straight forward, which was good after the failure on our first one.

For King and Country

We wondered why the GPS was pointing to a bit of car park until we realised it was just a general position and that we had to search about the nearby monuments. After collecting the information we had to contend with a heck of lot of muggles, but they were so many and all intent on their outing that none seemed to take much notice of us

For Valour

We thought this one might give us grief but the puzzle didn't take long and peter spotted the container fairly quickly.

HBT Rest Stop

This one almost had us beaten again, until Sue finally spotted it. We then wondered that as it now that it was so obvious, how we could have missed seeing it.

AC/DC: Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution

The last find for the day which was now quite sunny and making it hot work walking back up from the bottom of the Domain. On reaching the start position Peter had trouble working out to get his GPS pointing in the right direction, until he stopped it navigating to the start spot. Frogs and Water

We knew that " Swimming Hole " was a cache not far from home and finally decided to seek it. Earlier in the week we had picked up " Spot the Frog ", a moveable cache found under the Geocache Australia website and needed to deposit the little fellow somewhere. As frogs like water and this one had spent a few months on a dry hillside it seemed appropriate to lodge near a creek, so finding "Swimming Hole" was combined with the task. We could work out the starting spot even without a GPS and soon had the next stage entered in the GPS. Much to Peter's surprise it led us back down rather than up the creek and we ended beside a fence. A bit of searching and head scratching saw us give up for now and head off to lodge our little froggy. On return home Sue scanned through past logs and discovered several people also ended up where we did and then found this was several metres out. Freycinet Bushwalk

3 – 5 October 2012 As we were going on a bushwalk to Freycinet Peninsula the potential geocache finds in the area were checked and several were close to our route. We went for three days, camping at Cooks Beach for both nights and heading down to a rocky peak beyond Passage Beach. Graham (Graham51) was with us although he took the longer return option over Mount Graham where he also managed to locate a cache on his journey. On the way back in the car we picked up a couple in the region. Top of the Pass Our first for the day, located by Graham, and although a few muggles were about none took much notice of us,   Half empty or half full ? We dropped our packs and with two people holding GPS’s and three heading to GZ it was surprising how little attention the muggles paid to our activity. Waterworks Stroll

1 June 2012 For a few weeks we have been meaning to head back to the Ridgeway Park and collect a cache out on the eastern side. There was also one not far from Two Views which we ran out of time to attempt when we were here in April just gone.   The Kong Foo Sing Cache Walking to the site was quite pleasant and it was somewhere we had never walked before, although we had been on the tracks in other parts of the reserve over the years, and our resolve was to follow some of the other tracks before too long and maybe score a cache or two in the process. The container took a bit of extracting as it was a tight fit and we were surprised at the number of fortune messages that were in it.
